Algonquin Boulevard East to Reopen in Timmins
Algonquin Boulevard East in Timmins is set to reopen on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The section between Cedar Street and Brunette Road will be accessible to traffic again. Contractors are completing temporary line painting and activating traffic signals in the area, including a new pedestrian and snowmobile crossing near Hollinger Park. This crossing aims to improve safety and access to service stations across Algonquin Boulevard, particularly for snowmobiles using the trail network.
Temporary traffic controls at Brunette Road/Second Avenue and Second Avenue/Mountjoy Street South will be removed starting November 18. The temporary stop signs on Sixth Avenue will also be taken down. Traffic signals in the downtown area will operate on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and temporary speed limits on Airport Road will be lifted.
The detour for heavy commercial truck traffic will end with the reopening of Algonquin Boulevard. Timmins Transit’s Route 16 stop at Park Road Square will resume service. Additionally, the stop sign on Pine Street North at Sixth Avenue has been made a permanent four-way stop.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution and obey all traffic signage as the original routes are reinstated.
