Andalos Pastries Recalled Due to Possible Salmonella in Northeast Ontario

A recall has been issued for several Andalos brand pastry products due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The affected products were distributed in Ontario, including Northeast Ontario communities, as well as New Brunswick, Quebec, and through online sales. The recall date is August 7, 2025.

The CFIA states that people in Northeast Ontario who have purchased these products should check their pantries and refrigerators. Consuming affected items could cause illness, and the CFIA advises recalled products not be consumed, used, sold, served, or distributed.

The recall includes the following Andalos brand pastries:

  • Baklavas Rectangles (48 pieces, UPC 7 74005 00520 8), codes 17725, 17825, 18125, 18425, 19025, 19125, 19525, 19725, 19825
  • Baklavas Triangles (48 pieces, UPC 7 74005 00024 1), code 18425
  • Baklava (225 g, UPC 7 74005 00901 5), code 19725
  • Baklava Catering Tray (35 pieces), all units sold from June 25, 2025 up to and including July 26, 2025

The recall also covers several pastries served at Boulangerie Andalos, 350 Lebeau Boulevard, Saint Laurent, Québec, for all units sold between June 25, 2025 and July 26, 2025. These include:

  • Baklava Pistachio Wardah
  • Baklava Pistachio Burma
  • Baklava Esh Al Bolbol Pistachio
  • Baklava Aswara Pistachio
  • Baklava Losange
  • Knafeh Ashta
  • Knafeh Nabulseyeh
  • Qatayef (small)
  • Znoud El Sett
  • Cheaibiyet

According to the CFIA, food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems could develop more serious illnesses.

The CFIA says the recall was prompted by findings during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating the outbreak. The CFIA indicates that its food safety investigation is ongoing and could result in more recalls if necessary.

The recalling firm is Boulangerie Andalos Inc. The CFIA advises consumers to discard the recalled items or return them to the place of purchase.
