Boil water advisory issued for Timmins users west of Mattagami River Bridge, effective once service returns

A precautionary boil water advisory issued Sept. 2 applies to City of Timmins water users west of the Mattagami River Bridge and takes effect as soon as water service is restored, according to the City of Timmins and Northeastern Public Health.

The advisory affects households and businesses in the area served by that part of the system and sets out steps residents should follow before using tap water for common daily tasks until the advisory is lifted.

The City of Timmins said the advisory was declared after a watermain break caused a loss of water pressure in the system.

Under the advisory, residents are to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for domestic purposes, including drinking, making infant formula and juices, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice, the city’s notice says.

For dishwashing, the notice says to use boiled water that has been cooled or to use potable water from an alternative source.

The notice also states that all water taps must be posted with a sign indicating the water is not safe to drink.

The advisory will remain in effect until the City of Timmins obtains satisfactory drinking water results in two consecutive sets of samples taken at least 24 hours apart, according to the notice.
