Canada to Release New Spectrum for 5G Development
The Canadian government has unveiled plans to release additional spectrum to facilitate the development of 5G wireless networks. This announcement was made by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne. The newly accessible millimeter wave spectrum is expected to enhance telecommunications capabilities significantly.
According to the release, this spectrum will be available through the Non-Competitive Local Licensing Framework and will also be part of an upcoming auction. This initiative aims to support a range of applications, including localized mobile services, manufacturing automation, and fixed wireless services, assisting areas with rural and remote challenges, such as the Northeast of Ontario.
In the official statement, François-Philippe Champagne noted the importance of the spectrum in advancing wireless technologies, which will contribute to the expansion and enhancement of spectrum applications. The government attributes improvements in wireless network quality and new service potential to this move.
These measures are intended to address connectivity needs by providing the necessary infrastructure for modernized telecommunications services.
