Canadian Military Ends Deployment to UN Mission in Mali

General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff, announced the conclusion of an 18-month deployment by approximately 40 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) on March 4, 2025. According to the Department of National Defence, these personnel were stationed at the UN camp in Bamako, where they served in staff officer and information operations roles. The end of this deployment follows the United Nations' scheduled drawdown and closure of the MINUSMA mission.

Canada's involvement in UN peacekeeping operations in Mali included an air task force from 2018 to 2019, which provided medical evacuation and logistical missions. The recent deployment of ground personnel began in October 2023. The Department of National Defence stated that all activities conducted during this mission concluded in coordination with the timelines established by the United Nations.
