Carleton University to Launch New Nursing Program in 2025
Carleton University in Ottawa is set to introduce a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program starting in September 2025. This program, which is the first new university-based nursing program in Ontario in 20 years, will initially enroll up to 110 students. By 2030, the program aims to expand its enrollment to over 200 students annually. The program is designed as a direct entry, compressed three-year degree, allowing students to become registered nurses by 2029.
The Ontario government has stated that this initiative is part of a broader effort to increase the healthcare workforce, which has included adding 6,500 new spaces in nursing programs over the past three years. The program at Carleton University will offer students hands-on training opportunities in partnership with Queensway Carleton Hospital, starting from their first semester.
The government claims that this program will help address the demand for healthcare professionals in Ontario, providing more students with the opportunity to pursue a career in nursing. This initiative is part of the "Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care," which aims to ensure that people across the province have access to necessary healthcare services.
