CFIA Issues Recall on Daesang Gochujang Due to Undeclared Wheat Allergen
A recall of Daesang brand Gochujang (Spicy Red Pepper Paste) has been issued for Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec due to undeclared wheat, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The recall was announced by the CFIA on August 21, 2025, following a consumer complaint and one reported reaction linked to the product.
The CFIA reports that people with allergies or sensitivities to wheat or gluten, as well as individuals with celiac disease, could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume the affected product. The agency stated the 500 g size of Daesang brand Gochujang, with UPC 8 80 1052 802022 and code date 2025.10.29, is being recalled. The product was distributed to retailers in Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec, and the CFIA reports it is being removed from store shelves.
According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint, which resulted in a food safety investigation. The agency is verifying industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace and has said that further recalls may be issued if necessary.

The CFIA advises customers to check the UPC and code date of Daesang Gochujang and not to consume it if they have a wheat allergy, gluten sensitivity, or celiac disease. The CFIA states that recalled products should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase.
