CFIA issues recall warning for PK Roasted Lemon N’ Chilli Peanuts distributed in Ontario and Quebec due to possible Salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning for PK brand Roasted Lemon N’ Chilli Peanuts (65 g) distributed in Ontario and Quebec because of possible Salmonella contamination. The recall is Class 2 and listed under identification number RA-82611.

The CFIA says food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. The agency says young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may be more likely to develop serious and sometimes deadly infections.

The affected product is PK Roasted Lemon N’ Chilli Peanuts in a 65 g package with UPC 6 28998 001245. The CFIA says the recalled packages are marked with best-before code “BB: 2027/JN/20” and batch number “CN94.”

Everest Traders Inc. is listed as the recalling firm.

According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by test results, and there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the product.

The CFIA says people should not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled peanuts, and that recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

The CFIA says healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. The agency says long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The CFIA says it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
