CFIA issues recall warning for three Salem Foods spices due to undeclared wheat, sesame and mustard

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on June 26, 2026, for three Salem Foods brand ground spices and spice blends sold nationally because they may contain undeclared wheat, sesame and mustard.

The CFIA said people who are allergic or sensitive to wheat, sesame or mustard, as well as people with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders, should not consume the affected products. The agency said exposure to the undeclared allergens could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The products are being recalled from the marketplace because they may contain wheat, sesame and mustard that are not declared on the label, the CFIA said.

The recalled products are:

  • Salem Foods Cookies Spices (200 g) — UPC 8 25685 00240 4
  • Salem Foods Ground Cardamom (180 g) — UPC 8 25685 00410 1
  • Salem Foods Spearmint (120 g) — UPC 8 25685 00420 0

The recall applies to all codes where wheat, sesame and mustard are not declared on the label.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by its test results. The agency said no reactions have been reported in connection with these products.

The recall is classified as Class 1, and the recalling firm is listed as 1690161 Ontario Inc.

The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products. The agency said it is also verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

The recall identification number is RA-82253.
