CFIA recalls Alarjawi Royal Zaatar sold in Ontario and other provinces over possible Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on April 9, 2026, for Alarjawi brand Royal Zaatar (450 g) because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was distributed in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

People who bought Alarjawi Royal Zaatar are advised to check their cupboards, because food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

The CFIA says people should not consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled product. The agency says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

The recalled product is:

  • Brand: Alarjawi
  • Product: Royal Zaatar
  • Size: 450 g
  • UPC: 6 212055 036239
  • Codes: P: 29/04/2025; E: 28/10/2026; K1

The CFIA says the product is being recalled from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The recall was triggered by test results, according to the CFIA. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The CFIA says healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections, the CFIA says.

Greenworld Food Express Inc. is listed as the recalling firm.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products. The agency says it is checking that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The CFIA recall identification number is RA-81876.
