CFIA recalls Aoun Tahineh 800 g for possible Salmonella; sold in Ontario and five other provinces

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 recall on Dec. 13, 2025, for Aoun brand Tahineh – Ground Sesame 100% (800 g) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was distributed in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, and no illnesses have been reported. CFIA test results triggered the recall.

Salmonella can cause serious illness and may not change a product’s look or smell. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea; long‑term complications may include severe arthritis.

The recalled product can be identified as Aoun Tahineh – Ground Sesame 100%, 800 g, UPC 5 283000 904980, Best Before 2026 JL08, Lot # 0907L/THA. The recalling firm is 9115765 Canada Inc. The alert is a Food recall warning in the Food – Condiments category (Identification No. RA-81354).

A food safety investigation is underway and may lead to the recall of other products. Removal of the recalled product from the marketplace is being verified.

The CFIA advises consumers to check at home for the recalled tahini and not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute it. The agency advises that recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. The CFIA also advises anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product to contact a healthcare provider.
