CFIA recalls Basha Foods Raw Shelled Pistachio “Kernal” over possible Salmonella
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Oct. 21 for Basha Foods brand Raw Shelled Pistachio “Kernal” due to possible Salmonella contamination. Distribution is listed as Alberta, and no illnesses have been reported.
Salmonella can cause serious illness, especially for older adults, young children, pregnant people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long‑term complications can include severe arthritis.
The recall covers Basha Foods brand Raw Shelled Pistachio “Kernal” sold in variable sizes with a UPC that starts with 0 207216. The affected codes are “Packed On SE.30.25” and “Best Before MR.29.26.”
CFIA advises consumers and businesses not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. Recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. Anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product should contact a healthcare provider.
The recall was triggered by CFIA test results. A food safety investigation is underway that may lead to the recall of other products, and the agency is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
The recalling firm is Basha Foods International. The notice is classified as a Class 2 recall in the Food – Nuts, grains, and seeds category, identification number RA‑78331.
