CFIA recalls Delight Chocolate vegan ice cream sold online in Ontario over undeclared milk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning March 17 for Delight Chocolate brand Dairy-free Chocolate (vegan ice cream) sold online in Ontario after the products were found to possibly contain milk that is not declared on the label.

For people with a milk allergy or sensitivity, undeclared milk can pose a serious health risk. CFIA reported that reactions have been linked to consumption of the recalled products.

According to the CFIA recall notice, the affected products are:

  • Delight Chocolate Dairy-free Chocolate (vegan ice cream), 500 mL (UPC 627987197297); all codes where milk is not declared on the label
  • Delight Chocolate Dairy-free Chocolate (vegan ice cream), 112 mL (no UPC listed); all codes where milk is not declared on the label

The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint, the agency said.

CFIA advised people who are allergic or sensitive to milk not to consume the recalled products. The agency said the products should not be served, used, sold or distributed, and should be discarded or returned to where they were purchased.

CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and that it is verifying the recalled items are being removed from the marketplace.

The recall is listed as Class 1. The CFIA identification number for the recall is RA-81763.
