CFIA recalls Five Star Shellfish oysters sold in Ontario due to possible Salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on June 30, 2026, for Five Star Shellfish Inc. oysters sold in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec due to possible Salmonella contamination.

CFIA said older adults and people with weakened immune systems are among those who may be at higher risk of serious illness from Salmonella.

The recall was triggered by CFIA test results, and the agency said there have been no reported illnesses linked to the products.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness, CFIA said. The agency said symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. CFIA said long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

CFIA advised people not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled oysters. The agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. CFIA also said anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming a recalled product should contact a healthcare provider.
