CFIA recalls four Wu Xian Zhai products for undeclared wheat

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Aug. 19, 2026, for four Wu Xian Zhai brand products distributed in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan because they contain undeclared wheat.

The CFIA said the recall applies to people who are allergic or sensitive to wheat, as well as people with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders. The agency said those groups should not consume the recalled products because exposure may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The recalled items are all 108 g packages, and the recall applies to all codes where wheat is not declared on the label:

  • Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef (Five spices flavor), UPC 6 924878 900580
  • Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef (Numb & spicy flavor), UPC 6 924878 900573
  • Wu Xian Zhai Preserved beancurd (Spices beef flavor), UPC 6 924878 900580
  • Wu Xian Zhai Preserved beancurd (Pepper beef flavor), UPC 6 924878 900573

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by its test results.

There have been no reported reactions linked to the products, according to the CFIA.

The agency said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products. The CFIA said it is also verifying that the recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The recall is listed as Class 1 under identification number RA-82506. The recalling firms are AJ International Trading and Kam Wah Resources Co. Ltd. Each company is responsible for some, but not necessarily all, of the recalled products listed by the CFIA.
