CFIA recalls freshprep creamy cucumber dill salad sold in B.C. over possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a food recall warning for freshprep brand Creamy Cucumber Dill Salad with Feta & Pita Chips (300 g) because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The agency’s alert was last updated April 2, and the product was distributed in British Columbia.

While the distribution listed is outside Northeast Ontario, recalls can matter to residents who travel, have visitors, or receive food from other provinces. The CFIA’s warning applies to anyone who has the affected product.

The recalled item is sold under the freshprep brand as “Creamy Cucumber Dill Salad with Feta & Pita Chips” in a 300 g package. The UPC is listed as “None.” The affected codes are 26MR31, 26AL01, 26AL02, 26AL03, 26AL04, 26AL05, 26AL06.

People should not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk. In pregnant women, infection can cause mild flu-like symptoms but may also lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or stillbirth. In severe cases, people may die.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by the company, and no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.

The recalling firm is Fresh Prep Foods Inc. of Vancouver. The recall is classified as Class 1. CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to other recalls and is verifying that the product is being removed from the marketplace.

The recall identification number is RA-81842.
