CFIA Recalls Habibi Pistachio Kernels in Quebec Over Salmonella Risk

A recall has been issued for Habibi brand Pistachio Kernel in 10 kg packages due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The product, distributed in Quebec, carries the UPC 70847446000626 and lot code 344.24IR41 B.B JAN 2027. The recall was announced on August 22, 2025.

The CFIA stated that this action is linked to an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The agency advises that food contaminated with Salmonella may not show signs of spoilage but can still cause illness. Symptoms may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, with severe cases potentially affecting young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Long-term complications can include severe arthritis, according to health advisories from the CFIA.

The recall was triggered by findings from the CFIA during its investigation. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating an outbreak of human illness related to this issue. The CFIA reports that Green Farm Pistachio Inc. is the recalling firm and is working to remove affected products from the marketplace. The agency notes that the investigation may lead to additional recalls as needed.

Residents who believe they have consumed the recalled nuts and feel unwell are advised by the CFIA to contact their healthcare provider. The agency also recommends checking household food supplies and discarding or returning recalled products to their place of purchase. Details of the recall and ongoing outbreak investigation can be found on the CFIA and Public Health Agency of Canada websites.

The CFIA stated that it is verifying the removal of the recalled product from retail and other distribution channels.
