CFIA recalls Les Aliments Johnvince raw pecan halves in Quebec over possible Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Feb. 5 for Les Aliments Johnvince brand Pecans Halves Raw (230 g) because of possible Salmonella contamination. The CFIA said the product was distributed in Quebec.

The warning includes lot and date information that shoppers can use to identify the affected package. The CFIA said food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick.

The recalled product is Les Aliments Johnvince Pecans Halves Raw, sold in a 230 g package with UPC 0 55144 52282 6. The CFIA listed the affected code as Lot: 5 839 2 with best-before date “2027-mars-30.”

The CFIA advised people not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. The agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

The CFIA said young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems may be more likely to become seriously ill from Salmonella infection. The agency said healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, and that long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

CFIA test results triggered the recall, according to the agency. The CFIA said there have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of the product.

The recalling firm is Distributions Alimentaires Le Marquis Inc. The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace. The recall identification number is RA-81569.
