CFIA recalls Mounit el Bait tahina and halva in Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec over undeclared peanut

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled Mounit el Bait brand tahina and several halva products sold in Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec because peanut is not declared on the label. The CFIA posted the food recall warning on Aug. 14, 2026, and lists it as a Class 1 recall.

The CFIA warns that people with a peanut allergy or sensitivity could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they eat the affected products.

According to the CFIA, the recall applies to all codes where peanut is not declared on the label for the following items:

• Mounit el Bait Tahina (454 g), UPC 5 281029 254208
• Mounit el Bait Halva Plain (454 g), UPC 5 281029 254352
• Mounit el Bait Halva Plain (908 g), UPC 5 281029 254369
• Mounit el Bait Halva with Pistachios (454 g), UPC 5 281029 254574
• Mounit el Bait Halva with Pistachios (908 g), UPC 5 281029 254581
• Mounit el Bait Halva with Chocolate (454 g), UPC 5 281029 254468
• Mounit el Bait Halva with Chocolate (908 g), UPC 5 281029 254475

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by its test results. There have been no reported reactions linked to consumption of the recalled products, according to the agency.

The recalling firm is Golden Gate Inc. The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The CFIA advises people who are allergic or sensitive to peanut not to eat the recalled products. The agency also says the products should not be served, used, sold or distributed, and should be thrown out or returned to the place where they were purchased.
