CFIA recalls multiple cheese brands over possible Listeria contamination
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled certain cheese products sold under the brands Paradise Island Cheese, Bothwell, Only Goodness and Western Family because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was last updated April 2, 2026, and lists Gay Lea Co-operative Ltd. as the recalling company.
The CFIA warns that food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk, the agency says.
The recall includes retail-sized packages and larger-format products sold to hotels, restaurants, institutions and manufacturers.

The CFIA says the recall was triggered by the company and there have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of the affected products. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products.
The recall is classified as Class 1. The CFIA identification number is RA-81840.
