CFIA recalls multiple Salem Foods jarred products over undeclared wheat, mustard and sesame

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says it has recalled multiple Salem Foods brand jarred products because of undeclared wheat, mustard and sesame. The recall is dated Aug. 10.

The products were sold to retail customers and involve allergens that are not listed on some labels, including wheat, mustard and sesame seeds. The CFIA also lists gluten as part of the allergen issue.

The CFIA advises people not to use, sell, serve or distribute the affected products.

The CFIA lists distribution in Ontario, as well as Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

The affected Salem Foods products, sizes and UPCs are:

  • Spearmint (120 g), UPC 8 25685 00193 3
  • Dill Seeds (200 g), UPC 8 25685 00222 0
  • Fennel Seeds (135 g), UPC 8 25685 00224 4

  • Black Seeds (200 g), UPC 8 25685 00182 7
  • Citric Acid (355 g), UPC 8 25685 00162 9
  • Cloves Seeds (130 g), UPC 8 25685 00161 2
  • Coriander Seeds (100 g), UPC 8 25685 00412 5
  • Cumin Seeds (200 g), UPC 8 25685 00411 8
  • Fenugreek Seeds (300 g), UPC 8 25685 00413 2

The recall applies to all codes where wheat, sesame and mustard are not declared on the label.

The recalling firm is 1690161 Ontario Inc., doing business as Salem Brothers. The CFIA classified the recall as Class 2 under identification number RA-82494. The CFIA last updated its public notice on Aug. 14.
