CFIA recalls Smarter Snacks Vegan Protein Puff Chili & Lime for undeclared milk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Oct. 3, 2026, for Smarter Snacks brand Vegan Protein Puff Chili & Lime Flavored because the product contains milk that is not declared on the label. The product was distributed nationally, including online.

The notice is aimed at people with a milk allergy or sensitivity. CFIA says consuming a product with undeclared milk may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The affected item is Smarter Snacks brand Vegan Protein Puff Chili & Lime Flavored in a 50 g package with UPC 8 684041 306837. The recall applies to all lots where milk is not declared on the label.

CFIA testing triggered the recall, and one reaction has been reported in connection with consumption of the product, according to the agency’s notice.

Empire Health Distribution Inc. is listed as the recalling firm. The recall is classified as Class 1 and carries identification number RA-82723.

CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The agency is also verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.

CFIA says people who are allergic or sensitive to milk should not consume the recalled product. The agency also says the product should not be served, used, sold or distributed, and recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
