CFIA recalls Taeyangcho gochujang hot pepper paste for undeclared wheat

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Oct. 3, 2026, for Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) because the product contains wheat that is not declared on the label. The agency listed distribution in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan; Ontario was not listed.

The CFIA said the undeclared wheat could pose a serious risk for people with wheat allergies, celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders.

The CFIA listed the brand as “N/A (Korean characters only).” The recall covers Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) sold in the following sizes:

  • 170 g (UPC 8801075012323)
  • 500 g (UPC 8801075012316)
  • 1 kg (UPC 8801075012620)

According to the CFIA recall notice, the affected products include all codes where wheat is not declared on the label.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. The agency also said there have been no reported reactions associated with consumption of the products.

The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is checking that the recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The recalling firm is listed as HYMS Trading Ltd. The CFIA classified the notice as a Class 1 recall, identification number RA-82728.
