CFIA recalls three Clément Le Gourmand meat products in Quebec over possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled three Clément Le Gourmand brand processed meat products sold in Quebec because of possible Listeria contamination, according to a federal recall notice last updated Aug. 14.

While the products were distributed in Quebec, the agency’s notice includes information about who may be most at risk and what to watch for if someone has eaten one of the recalled items.

The recalled products are 150-gram packages with the following UPCs and product code:

• Clément le Gourmand Country-style Pâté (150 g) — UPC 6 28872 50101 4, code 2026SE18 00003
• Clément le Gourmand Duck Liver Mousse with Port (150 g) — UPC 6 28872 50301 8, code 2026SE18 00003
• Clément le Gourmand Liver Pâté with Cognac (150 g) — UPC 6 28872 50004 8, code 2026SE18 00003

The agency advised people not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products. It also said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

The notice states that food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms listed in the notice include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.

The agency said pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. It said infected pregnant women may experience mild, flu-like symptoms, but the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or stillbirth. In severe cases, the agency said, people may die.

According to the notice, the recall was triggered by CFIA test results and there have been no reported illnesses linked to the products.

The recalling firm is Boucherie Charcuterie Lyn Tremblay Inc. The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to other recalls, and it is verifying that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The recall is listed as Class 1 and carries identification number RA-82491.
