CFIA recalls two lots of Kendamil whole milk infant formula sold at Costco due to cereulide toxin
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Feb. 22, 2026, for two lots of Kendamil infant formula with whole milk due to cereulide toxin. The affected 1,049-gram product was sold only at Costco Wholesale in Canada, and the CFIA listed distribution as national and online.
For residents in Northeast Ontario, the CFIA notice may affect anyone who bought Kendamil “Infant formula with whole milk – Milk based powder with iron” from Costco in Canada or through Costco online. The agency provided UPC and lot information to help consumers identify the recalled product.
The recalled product is Kendamil “Infant formula with whole milk – Milk based powder with iron” (1,049 g) with UPC 8 50045 23826 1. Affected codes are:
- MANF: 2025 MA 01; BEST BEFORE: 2027 MA 01; L 897274 M 121
- MANF: 2025 MA 01; BEST BEFORE: 2027 MA 01; L 888632 M 121
The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
Cereulide is a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus. The CFIA says cereulide is highly heat-stable, meaning it is unlikely to be deactivated or destroyed by cooking or when preparing infant formula.
Symptoms typically begin rapidly after ingestion and most often involve gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, according to the CFIA.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by a recall in another country, and that there have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of this product.
The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The agency said it is also verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
The notice lists the recall as a Class 2 recall under identification number RA-81636. The recalling firm is Kendal Nutricare Canada Ltd.
