CFIA recalls unbranded green pistachios sold at Ottawa Roastery over Salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a food recall warning for unbranded Green Pistachios sold at Ottawa Roastery in Ottawa due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall covers product sold from August 19 to October 21, 2025, and distribution is limited to Ontario. The CFIA said no illnesses had been reported as of the notice.

The CFIA advises that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. According to the agency, young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of serious infection.

The recalled product has no brand name, comes in variable sizes, and has no UPC. It was sold at Ottawa Roastery, 2188 Lamira St., Ottawa, during the dates specified by the CFIA.

The CFIA advised consumers not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled pistachios. The agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. The CFIA also advised checking for recalled product and contacting a healthcare provider if illness is suspected after consumption.

The CFIA said its test results triggered the recall. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to recalls of other products and is verifying that industry is removing recalled items from the marketplace.

The recall is classified as Class 2 and identified as RA-78330 (CFIA ID 16847). The recall date is October 21, 2025. The CFIA published the notice on October 22, 2025.

According to the CFIA, healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The agency said long-term complications can include severe arthritis.
