City of Timmins issues extreme cold weather alert for Jan. 27, with wind chill as low as -29 overnight

The City of Timmins issued an extreme cold weather alert for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, saying temperatures were expected to drop as low as -29 overnight, including wind chill. The city said people requiring emergency shelter can go to 316 Spruce St. S. in Timmins for assistance.

The alert follows a series of cold-weather notices posted by the city this month and comes with a warning about health risks during periods of extreme cold.

The City of Timmins said exposure to extreme cold temperatures can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The city advised residents to avoid wind exposure, dress in warm layers, and cover exposed skin.

The alert was posted at 9:11 a.m. on Jan. 27, according to the city’s website.
