City reports 49.1 m³ raw wastewater overflow at Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1 in Timmins

The City of Timmins reported a 49.1 cubic-metre raw wastewater overflow at Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1, 202 Goldrush St., on Aug. 23. The city said the overflow began at 1:57 p.m. and ended at 2:12 p.m.

The notice provides the time, location and volume of the overflow, information that may be relevant to nearby residents and to people who follow the city’s wastewater system reporting.

The city did not list a cause for the Aug. 23 overflow.

In its notice, the City of Timmins said municipal wastewater is about 99% water from stormwater and from homes and businesses.

The city also said overflows can happen when a treatment plant or treatment process is overwhelmed, often during heavy rainfall or snowmelt. The city described a bypass or overflow as diverting partially treated wastewater away from a treatment process to prevent backups or damage to the system.
