City reports raw overflow at Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1 on Goldrush Street in Timmins

The City of Timmins reported a raw overflow at Whitney-Tisdale Pump Station #1, located at 202 Goldrush Street, that began at 6:37 p.m. on April 16.

The city’s public report did not list when the overflow ended or how much wastewater was bypassed. Those fields were still marked “TBD” in an update posted at 9:25 a.m. on April 17.

In the same notice, the city said municipal wastewater consists of “99% water” from stormwater and from homes and businesses, including water from washing and flushing.

The city said bypasses or overflows can occur when a treatment plant or treatment process is overwhelmed, and said these events are often associated with heavy rainfall or snowmelt.

The April 16 report did not list a cause for the overflow.

The city said that during a bypass or overflow, partially treated wastewater may be diverted away from a treatment process to prevent backups or damage to the system.
