The recall applies to the general public as well as hotels, restaurants and institutions. Distribution is national. Food contaminated with E. coli O26 may not look or smell spoiled.

CFIA advises people and businesses not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the affected items and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming a recalled product should contact a healthcare provider.

The recall was triggered by CFIA findings during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products, and is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
