Cobourg Receives Federal Funding for Climate Resilient Infrastructure

The federal government and the Town of Cobourg have announced a $19.5 million investment to enhance climate resilience at Cobourg's shoreline. This initiative is directed at updating the Cobourg Harbour breakwaters and Monk’s Cove Park seawall in response to ongoing climate challenges like shoreline erosion and flooding, as detailed in a government release.

The project involves replacing the existing concrete structures with limestone below the waterline and granite above, intended to better withstand the effects of wave action and storm surges. The materials will be sourced locally, within a 100 km range, and efforts will be made to reuse available stones to minimize environmental impacts.

This development is part of efforts to adapt Cobourg’s infrastructure to the increasing risks posed by climate change, as discussed in the government's announcement.
