Contract Awarded for Healthcare Redevelopment in Moosonee and Moose Factory
The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) and the Ontario government have announced the awarding of a contract to Pomerleau Healthcare Partners for the redevelopment of healthcare facilities in Moosonee and Moose Factory. The contract, valued at $1.8 million, involves the design, construction, and financing of a new healthcare campus in Moosonee and an ambulatory care centre in Moose Factory.
The project will include a 36-bed acute care hospital, a 32-bed Long-Term Elder Lodge, staff residences, a patient and family hostel, and an ambulatory care clinic. Construction is scheduled to commence this fall, with patient occupancy expected by 2030.
The selection of Pomerleau Healthcare Partners was based on their construction experience and financial capacity to handle a project of this scale. The procurement process was overseen by a third-party fairness advisor.
WAHA operates healthcare services across several communities along Ontario's western James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts, including Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, among others.
