Emergency watermain break repair scheduled March 17 on Croatia Avenue in Schumacher

Timmins is carrying out an emergency watermain break repair Tuesday, March 17, on Croatia Avenue in Schumacher between Ponderosa Street and Veterans Street. Work is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The repair may temporarily affect water service for nearby homes and businesses, including short-term water shutoffs, reduced pressure, or brown or rust-coloured tap water during the work, according to a notice from the City of Timmins’ Environmental Services Department.

The city advises residents not to drink discoloured water or use it for laundry. The city said the water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.

If tap water turns brown or rust-coloured during the repair, the city advises turning off the tap for 10 to 20 minutes while crews finish the work.

After the repair is completed, the city advises running cold water—often from a laundry-tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

The city described the repair as emergency work.
