An extreme cold weather alert is in effect in Timmins on Wednesday, Feb. 25, with wind chill values expected to reach -32 this evening and overnight.

The City of Timmins warned that exposure to extreme cold can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening health problems, including frostbite and hypothermia.

The city recommends avoiding wind exposure, dressing in warm layers and covering exposed skin.

People needing emergency shelter can go to 316 Spruce St. S. for assistance.
