Federal Funding Announced for Northern College Mining Research

Northern College in Timmins has announced that it will receive $200,000 in federal funding for its Innovation Hub. This funding is part of a larger $73 million investment by the federal government into colleges, cégeps, and polytechnics across Canada under the Canadian Science Vision program.

The funds will be used to create a new technology development position at the Innovation Hub, which aims to support new applied research projects. Amy McKillip, Manager of Applied Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation at Northern College, stated that the investment would help create jobs, improve workplace safety, and enhance business efficiencies in the mining sector.

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, emphasized the government's commitment to investing in students and small- to medium-sized businesses to boost economic development and job creation through diverse research projects.

Fred Gibbons, President and CEO of Northern College, highlighted the importance of applied research projects in providing students with experiential learning opportunities and building essential workplace skills.
