Flag Lowered at McIntyre Arena to Honor Murray Costello
The flag at the McIntyre Arena in Timmins has been lowered to honor Murray Costello, who passed away on July 27, 2024. Costello, originally from South Porcupine, had a four-season career in the NHL and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was recognized for his leadership roles in the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and Hockey Canada. Costello was also a lifetime member of the International Ice Hockey Federation, an Officer of the Order of Canada, and a recipient of the Order of Hockey in Canada. He played a significant role in adding women's hockey to the Olympics and organized the first IIHF World Women’s Championship.
