Fleet Diving Unit Returns from International Exercise

Members of the Fleet Diving Unit (Pacific) have returned to Victoria, British Columbia, after participating in the Multinational Mine Warfare Exercise 24. This exercise was hosted by the Republic of Korea Navy from October 14 to 25, 2024, off the coast of Busan, South Korea. Eleven members from the unit, along with two support staff, were involved in the exercise aboard the Republic of Korea Ship Cheon Wang Bong. The focus was on mine countermeasures and enhancing collective deterrence. The exercise included drills for detecting and neutralizing mines to ensure safe navigation routes and improve interoperability among participating nations.

Nineteen nations participated in the exercise, including the United States Navy, Royal Australian Navy, and the Philippine Navy. The exercise also featured a mine countermeasures symposium prior to the sailing. This year's exercise was part of Operation HORIZON, which aims to enhance peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. This initiative is part of Canada's efforts to strengthen regional security and collaborate with international partners.
