Free Bus Rides in Timmins on Earth Day
Timmins Transit will offer free bus rides on Saturday, April 22, as part of its Earth Day tradition. According to the City’s 2019 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, on-road transportation in Timmins accounts for 37.7% of the city's greenhouse gas emissions. Using public transportation can help reduce these emissions by decreasing the number of private vehicles on the road.
Additional benefits of public transit include:
- Increased road safety due to more driver training and lower speeds.
- Reduced traffic congestion, especially during road construction and maintenance periods.
- Improved social equity by providing reliable transportation for all individuals, regardless of ability, accessibility, age, or income.
- Increased physical activity, as bus rides often involve walking to and from bus stops.
