Government of Canada announces $4.93M for six projects in Temiskaming Shores and across Northern Ontario
Parliamentary Secretary Pauline Rochefort announced on December 18 that the Government of Canada will provide $4,929,180 for six projects in Temiskaming Shores and communities across Northern Ontario. She made the announcement on behalf of Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor.
The package includes non-repayable funding for the South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation and the City of Temiskaming Shores, as well as repayable contributions to three private businesses. It also funds a three-year regional Economic Development Officer position with the City.
FedNor will provide a non-repayable $1,600,000 over five years to the South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation to support ongoing operations. According to FedNor, the organization provides business counselling and investment services to small and medium-sized businesses and takes part in community strategic planning and socio-economic development. It is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations in Northern Ontario.
The City of Temiskaming Shores will receive a non-repayable $1,152,000 to establish the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase pavilion at two industry events: the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention in Toronto from March 1–4, 2026, and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum convention in Vancouver from May 3–6, 2026.
B & G Industrial Services will receive a repayable $1,000,135 to expand manufacturing operations in Thornloe. The project includes constructing a 19,650-square-foot facility and acquiring equipment including a sandblast booth, overhead cranes, welders, plasma cutters, and ventilation systems. The project is supported through FedNor’s Regional Growth Through Innovation Fund.
Koch Grain Elevator (Earlton) Inc. will receive a repayable $499,895 to construct and equip a shipping and receiving rail terminal in the Temiskaming District. Funding will be used to install conveyors, bucket elevators, automated scaled loading bins, and a stainless-steel unloading pit.
Mid North Recycling will receive a repayable $380,150 to expand and diversify metal recycling operations. According to FedNor, the funding will be used to construct a new facility and integrate new technology. This project is funded through FedNor’s Regional Growth Through Innovation Fund.
The City of Temiskaming Shores will also receive a non-repayable $297,000 to employ a regional Economic Development Officer for three years. FedNor says the role covers Temiskaming Shores and surrounding communities from Gowganda to Englehart to Temagami, with focus areas including land development, workforce attraction, tourism, agriculture, mining, forestry and business support. The funding is provided through FedNor’s Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario.
