Hydrant flushing set for May 20 on Brundy Avenue and nearby streets in Schumacher

Hydrant flushing and watermain cleaning are scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, in the Schumacher area, with work planned from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Timmins’ Environmental Services Department says.

Residents and businesses on the affected streets may notice temporary drops in water pressure or see brown or rust-coloured water during the work.

The city’s notice lists the affected streets as Brundy Avenue, Claimpost Trail, Miners Avenue, Ennis Street, Prospectors Street and Delost Avenue.

The City of Timmins advised residents and businesses not to drink discoloured water or use it for laundry during flushing, and said the water is not harmful to health but may stain laundry.

If discoloured water occurs, the city advised residents to stop running water for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish flushing.

After crews have finished and left the area, the city advised residents to run cold water from the tap closest to the source—usually a laundry-tub tap—for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
