Inquest Scheduled for 2019 Mine Fatality in River Valley

Dr. Harry Mikael Voogjarv, Regional Supervising Coroner for the North Region, Sudbury Office, announced that an inquest into the death of Mark Paul Joseph Beskorowany will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025. The coroner’s office named Bonnie Goldberg as the presiding officer and Alessandra Hollands as inquest counsel.

The coroner’s office stated the inquest is mandatory under Ontario’s Coroners Act. According to the same announcement, Mr. Beskorowany, 54, died in hospital on August 21, 2019, after being injured on August 19, 2019, while working at a surface mining site in River Valley.

The coroner’s office said the inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Beskorowany’s death. The office added that the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths. The inquest is expected to last five days and include testimony from about six witnesses, according to the announcement.
