Kapuskasing’s next municipal election is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, and the Town of Kapuskasing says nominations to run for mayor or council will open May 1 and close Aug. 21.

The timeline matters for residents considering a run for local office, as voters will be choosing seven seats on council in 2026.

According to a public notice issued by the Town of Kapuskasing on April 9, the election will be held for one mayor and six councillors. The town’s notice says all Kapuskasing voters will elect both the mayor and the six councillors.

The town’s notice says candidates must submit a nomination form supported by an endorsement declaration signed by at least 25 eligible voters.

The filing fee is $200 for mayor candidates and $100 for other offices, the notice says.

The notice was posted on the Town of Kapuskasing website under “Media Releases.”
