Linda A. Shin Appointed as Judge in Ontario
The Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced a new judicial appointment in Ontario. Linda A. Shin, previously General Counsel at the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario, Criminal Law Division, has been appointed as a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in Toronto. This appointment follows the judicial application process established in 2016, which focuses on transparency, merit, and diversity.
Justice Shin replaces Justice B.A. Allen, who became a supernumerary judge effective November 4, 2022. Justice Shin has a background in criminal law, having conducted appeals and trial prosecutions on complex matters, including homicides and allegations against police officers. Her previous roles include Chief Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General for Ontario and Assistant Crown Attorney in Toronto.
Justice Shin is also involved in mentorship and education, having served as an articling principal and mentor to law students. She has been an instructor for the trial advocacy course at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law and a board member of the Korean Canadian Women’s Association since 2018.
