Moosonee Town Council Approves New Projects and Initiatives
The Moosonee Town Council held a meeting on June 18, 2024, to discuss various community projects and initiatives. Key outcomes from the meeting include:
- Cricket Ground Proposal: The council received a proposal from Unity in Diversity for establishing a cricket ground in Bowmanville. The proposal highlighted the growing interest in cricket and the lack of available grounds in Oshawa and Whitby. The council agreed to consider existing and potential future sites for the cricket ground as part of the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan.
- Rodenticide-Free Program: The council endorsed the expansion of the rodenticide-free program to all municipally operated recreation facilities, effective July 1, 2024. The 2025 budget will include an additional $3,600 to cover increased pest control costs.
- Closed Meeting Investigator: The Ontario Ombudsman was appointed as the new Closed Meeting Investigator for Clarington, effective January 1, 2025. The current services with Local Authority Services Ltd. will be terminated on December 31, 2024.
- Financial Policies Update: The council approved updates to several financial policies, including the Financial Management Policy, Multi-Year Budget Policy, Development Charges Interest Policy, and Strategic Asset Management Policy. Several outdated policies were rescinded.
- Northglen East Park Siteworks: Powcon Inc. was awarded the contract for the Northglen East Park Siteworks with a total bid amount of $803,012.58. The total project cost is estimated at $1,131,977.73, including construction and other related costs.
- 2024 Asset Management Plan: The council approved the Draft 2024 Asset Management Plan, which will be placed on the municipal website and forwarded to the Province of Ontario if requested.
- High Street and O'Dell Street Reconstruction: AECOM Canada Ltd. was awarded the contract for engineering services for the reconstruction of High Street and O'Dell Street.
