National Cyber Security Strategy Announced by Canada
The Government of Canada announced its new National Cyber Security Strategy (NCSS) on February 6, 2025. The strategy includes two guiding principles: Whole-of-society engagement and Agile leadership. These principles aim to involve various stakeholders such as different levels of government, law enforcement, Indigenous communities, the private sector, academia, and civil society in cyber security efforts.
The NCSS is structured around three main pillars: protecting Canadians and Canadian businesses from cyber threats, contributing to Canada’s presence in cyber security on a global scale, and focusing efforts on detecting and disrupting cyber threat actors. The strategy details steps to enhance national cyber defenses and protect individual and business interests.
Key initiatives under this strategy include the establishment of the Canadian Cyber Defence Collective, which aims to create partnerships between public and private sectors. Moreover, the strategy outlines the investment in a Cyber Attribution Data Centre at the University of New Brunswick to advance capabilities in analyzing and responding to cybercrime.
This strategic plan is presented as part of Canada’s ongoing response to the evolving digital threat landscape, intending to ensure the safety and security of Canadian citizens in the digital realm.
