Northern College Reports Increase in Enrolment and Financial Support
Northern College, located in Timmins, has reported a nine percent increase in domestic student enrolment for the 2024 academic year. The college has also announced the distribution of $714,249 in scholarships, bursaries, and awards to 526 students across its four campuses. This amount marks an increase of $150,000 compared to the previous year.
The college has seen enrolment growth in several key programs, including Social Service Worker, Veterinary Technician, Practical Nursing, Collaborative Nursing, Addictions and Mental Health Worker, Paramedic, and Electrical Engineering Technician. These programs are noted for their demand for skilled professionals.
Dean Lessard, Senior Vice President Academic at Northern College, stated that the institution works to create programs in partnership with community and industry needs, aiming to produce work-ready graduates. The college emphasizes its commitment to supporting students through financial aid and partnerships with donors.
Northern College's efforts are part of a broader strategy to retain and attract students to the Northeast region of Ontario, contributing to the local economy and workforce development.
