Nov. 13 leadership lab planned for Timmins Grade 10 students

Timmins Youth Connect and Central Ontario Leadership Seminars will host the first Timmins Leadership Lab on November 13, 2025, bringing Grade 10 students from all five local high schools together for leadership and team-building activities.

The one-day event is part of Timmins Youth Connect, a City of Timmins initiative under the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. About 50 students are expected to attend.

Keynote remarks will be delivered by Sunjay Nath. Throughout the day, students will take part in interactive sessions on communication, trust, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Sessions will be facilitated by youth and adult leaders from across Ontario. The facilitators are former COLS ambassadors now serving as mentors.

Parents and guardians will receive information packages, including registration forms, before the event.

“One of the biggest priorities of Timmins Youth Connect is to ensure that youth have a voice in decision-making,” said Meagan Baranyk, the City of Timmins’ community programs manager. “That begins by creating space for young people to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and see themselves as capable contributors to a safe and strong community. Too often, youth in the North have limited access to the programs and opportunities based down south – this initiative changes that.”

“We are delighted to partner with Timmins Youth Connect on the first ever Timmins Leadership Lab and further our mission to empower young leaders, promote positive attitudes, and foster critical thinking skills,” said Rob Lysy, COLS president and director. “We look forward to working with 50 of Timmins’ most enthusiastic high school students who are ready to become leaders in their schools and their communities.”

Central Ontario Leadership Seminars runs leadership programming for Grade 10 students that includes keynote presentations, panel discussions, teambuilding exercises, and opportunities for peer connection.

The City of Timmins announced the event on November 6.
