Ontario Allocates $1.3 Billion for New School Construction and Expansion
The Ontario government has announced a $1.3 billion investment aimed at constructing 30 new schools and expanding 15 existing ones throughout the province. This initiative is projected to create over 25,000 new student spaces and more than 1,600 new licensed child care spaces.
The projects have been selected through the 2024-25 Capital Priorities program, which is designed to address the growing need for educational facilities in rapidly developing areas. The investment also seeks to enhance access to French-language education.
According to the Ontario government, this investment is part of a broader plan to accommodate demographic changes and housing developments. Minister of Education Jill Dunlop has been cited in relation to this initiative.
While the announcement outlines the scope of the investment, specific locations for the new schools and expansions have not been detailed.
