Ontario Allocates $7 Million for Critical Minerals Projects

The Ontario government has announced an investment exceeding $7 million in 17 projects aimed at advancing the research, development, and commercialization of technologies related to critical minerals. These minerals are essential for the production of batteries and electric vehicles.

In Timmins, two projects have been highlighted. NetZero Metals will receive $495,740 to support its nickel processing initiatives. EV Nickel Inc. is set to receive $223,552 to further its bioleaching process, which is a method used to extract metals from their ores using living organisms.

Stephen Crawford, Associate Minister of Mines, emphasized the importance of connecting Ontario's northern mineral sector with southern communities. George Pirie, Minister of Mines, noted the significance of establishing a stable supply chain for manufacturing technologies.

These projects are part of Ontario's broader strategy to meet the growing global demand for critical minerals, which are essential components in the manufacturing of modern technologies.
