Ontario and Aroland First Nation Sign Infrastructure Agreement

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Aroland First Nation Chief Sonny Gagnon have signed an agreement to enhance infrastructure and economic development in Northern Ontario. The agreement includes plans to upgrade Anaconda and Painter Lake Roads, which are vital connections to the mineral-rich Ring of Fire region.

The Ontario government has committed $70 million towards planning the Greenstone Electricity Transmission Line, in collaboration with First Nations, including Aroland. Additionally, $20 million is allocated for community infrastructure projects to support local business development and community well-being.

The agreement also outlines future discussions to establish a framework for sharing economic benefits from forestry and mining operations with Aroland First Nation and potentially other nearby First Nations. Premier Ford acknowledged the partnership with Chief Gagnon and Aroland First Nation in this initiative.
